WISD Board of Trustees calls Tax Ratification Election (TRE)

A tax ratification election (TRE) is required to raise the Maintenance and Operations rate by two cents. If approved, the total tax rate would remain the same at $1.413 as a result of the decrease in the Interest & Sinking rate. Because of a provision in the state funding formula, WISD would benefit financially as a result of a "tax swap". If the TRE is approved, Whitehouse ISD would generate an additional $850,000 from the state at the same total tax rate.

The Board also approved a resolution to set a tax rate at $1.413 per $100 valuation for the 2018-19 school year. In addition, the board ordered the calling of a tax ratification election for August 25, 2018.

All WISD employees are reminded not to use district resources or time to either promote or oppose the Tax Ratification Election (TRE). WISD policy BBBD (LEGAL) reminds us "an officer or employee of a district may not knowingly spend or authorize the spending of public funds for the purpose of political advertising. This does not apply to a communication that factually describes the purposes of a measure if the communication does not advocate passage or defeat of the measures."
